The Suffolk County Stingrays are the newest professional team on the hardcourt to hail from Long Island. Representing 631 territory the Stingrays, members of the ABA will commence their inaugural season this fall. They will call Island Federal Credit Arena at Stony Brook their home and will play ten home games and ten road games.
Eric Boyd, the CEO of Sunrise Sports and Entertainment, LLC is the owner and founder of the pro B-Ball club, and the Stingrays are also owned by Layota McDonald and Bernard Williams.
Suffolk’s team is marshalled by three members of the coaching staff. 15-year NBA forward and former UConn Huskies star Donyell Marshall, Oyster Bay native Robert Venegas, and Dominique Williams. Brian Joseph is the personnel development coordinator.
The Stingrays will be members of the East Region in which there are four divisions. Blue, white, black, and red. The Stingrays will be represented in the Black division as their divisional rivals will consist of the Bridgeport Kings, Burlington Thorobreds, Coney Island Thunder, Garden State Warriors, New Jersey Soldiers, New York Lights, and their nearest geographical adversary: the New York Hoop Dragons who play their games at Five Towns College in Dix Hills.
Aside from looking to dominate on the court at the professional level the Stingrays plan on being assets to the community and are determined to strive towards positively impacting those in Suffolk County looking to partake in many good causes such as community outreach programs and charitable initiatives to make sure everyone in the communities in Suffolk County live a fruitful and successful life.
The Suffolk County Stingrays will pay homage to the New York Nets of the ABA who dominated at the Coliseum with the dunk master aka Dr. J, Julius Irving and Rick Barry; the Miami Greyhound. They are paying homage using the same patriotic color coordination. The modern ABA pays homage to the original ABA using the red, white, and blue basketball and the Stingrays jerseys will consist of that tri colored roundball clutched by a Stingray as the name Stingrays are emblazoned directly across the chest in bold letters showing the pride to 631 as Suffolk County is sketched directly beneath the team’s name.
Here’s to a new era of basketball on Long Island and the Suffolk County Stingrays are hoping to bring winning, joy, prosperity, and success to the county we call home and look to represent Suffolk well! The season tips off in early November as Suffolk’s finest will strive for nothing but wins and nothing but nets!
